ISC2 CISSP

CISSP is the broad leadership certification across eight security domains, from risk management to software security. The exam adapts to you: harder questions as you prove yourself, and it can end early once the algorithm is decided.

Experienced security professionals moving into leadership or architecture roles, and anyone whose job description already reads like the eight domains.

How much study time does CISSP need?

Pick the closest starting point. The range below is a planning estimate, not a promise or a pass prediction.

130 to 190 hoursat a steady pace

That is up to 38 weeks at 5 hours a week, or 24 weeks at 8 hours. Some IT background, but the exam material is still new.

Estimate only. Based on the exam level and a study-pace assumption. Your background, exam date and practice scores will move it.

A study plan that works

Order matters
  1. Cover all eight domains, but weight study toward your weakest two. The adaptive engine finds them fast.
  2. Think like a manager and an advisor. CISSP rewards the answer that protects the business first.
  3. Practice without backtracking. Train yourself to commit and move on.
  4. Read long scenarios for the actual question. Half the text is context, not clues.

Try one question

Live demo
Demo questionAsset security

A team plans to sell old laptops. Which action best addresses data remanence before the sale?

Written for this page. It is a teaching demo, not an item from the question bank or the real exam.

Try the hands-on shape

About 2 minutes

Old laptops are about to be sold. What best addresses data remanence?

Demo preview. A teaching model with fixed sample data, not the real lab. Full labs run in the browser with checkable steps.

Practice a performance question

The CISSP exam does not use performance-based questions, so SecLern trains the same skills with scenario questions and hands-on labs.

Open the Academy

Labs are browser-based simulations: no install, no remote machine, and every step is checked against the state you leave behind.

Common traps

Ways smart people lose points on this exam.

  • Trying to review answers. The format forbids it, so practice deciding once.
  • Over-studying deep technical trivia. Breadth with judgment beats depth here.
  • Ignoring the management domains. Governance and risk appear everywhere.

Practise CISSP, three ways

Every lab is a job task in the tool that job uses, graded on the end state you leave behind. The PBQ pages explain the performance formats this exam uses and open one real scenario in the browser. The practice test gives you fifteen questions with a reason for every option.
