Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) is the entry ticket to cloud vocabulary: what the cloud is, what Azure sells, and how it is governed and priced. No labs, no deep configuration, just clear descriptions.
Complete beginners, sales and management staff around Azure projects, and students deciding whether cloud work suits them. It never expires.
Version status
Microsoft updates blueprints without a fixed public retirement date. Check learn.microsoft.com before booking.
Where the marks live
Domain weights from the current AZ-900 objectives. Start with the heaviest slice, not the first chapter.
Architecture and services leads at 38%
How much study time does AZ-900 need?
Pick the closest starting point. The range below is a planning estimate, not a promise or a pass prediction.
50 to 70 hoursat a steady pace
That is up to 14 weeks at 5 hours a week, or 9 weeks at 8 hours. Some IT background, but the exam material is still new.
Estimate only. Based on the exam level and a study-pace assumption. Your background, exam date and practice scores will move it.
A study plan that works
Order matters- Learn the vocabulary first: regions, subscriptions, tenants, and resource groups unlock everything else.
- Weight study toward architecture and services (the biggest band).
- Understand pricing and SLAs conceptually. The exam asks what they mean, not current numbers.
- Describe, do not configure. If you are memorizing portal clicks, you have gone too deep.
Try one question
Live demoA team wants one billing boundary and a shared lifecycle for a group of related Azure resources. Which construct should they use?
Written for this page. It is a teaching demo, not an item from the question bank or the real exam.
Try the hands-on shape
About 2 minutesA team wants one lifecycle and permission boundary for a related set of Azure resources. Which construct fits?
Demo preview. A teaching model with fixed sample data, not the real lab. Full labs run in the browser with checkable steps.
Practice a performance question
The AZ-900 exam does not use performance-based questions, so SecLern trains the same skills with scenario questions and hands-on labs.
Labs are browser-based simulations: no install, no remote machine, and every step is checked against the state you leave behind.
Common traps
Ways smart people lose points on this exam.
- Studying implementation details. AZ-900 asks what things are, not how to click them.
- Skipping governance. Pricing, SLAs, and management groups are a third of the exam.
- Memorizing exact service limits. Learn what each service does instead.
Practise AZ-900, three ways
Every lab is a job task in the tool that job uses, graded on the end state you leave behind. The PBQ pages explain the performance formats this exam uses and open one real scenario in the browser. The practice test gives you fifteen questions with a reason for every option.
